Episode 10: Book Recommendations!
Angry girls, surprised magicians and monsters for miles. 📚
Welcome to the Pub Dates newsletter! We’re so glad you’re here.
This newsletter is released as a companion to each podcast episode, and we use it to share the visual elements of our discussion — from mood boards to design sketches, from photos to secret giveaways just for subscribers.
In episode ten, we decided that since you can’t get your hands on The Isles of the Gods or Nightbirds yet, we’d point you in the direction of some books you can read right now. Below, we’ve listed six books we think you should read.
Before that, though, we always give you a peek at life behind the scenes — Amie mentioned that she’s been out and about, taking some time with the family and working on a draft, closing her inbox to focus on story for a while. As you can see, it’s going well.
And Kate mentioned she’s been chasing story too — in her case, by going on a solo writing retreat to a gorgeous estate. Here’s her gorgeous little cottage
And here’s a bird friend she made along the way. She suggested a twist for act one of Nightbirds 2 that Kate just loved.
And now, on to our recommendations…
The Midnight Girls by Alicia Jasinska
She Who Became The Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan
Alone Out Here by Riley Redgate
A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske
All These Monsters by Amy Tintera
That’s it for this episode — we’ll see you next time for our listener Q&A! You all had some very interesting questions, and we’re excited to answer them. In the meantime, if you have a book recommendation for us, we would LOVE to hear it — please leave us a comment and tell us what you’ve loved lately.
Thanks for the great recommendations. Many of those books have gone straight onto my list (my bank account is side-eyeing me!) I've recently read and enjoyed 'Spellbook of the Lost and Found' by the Irish author, Moira Fowley-Doyle. I really liked its take on magical realism.
