Welcome to the Pub Dates newsletter! We’re so glad you’re here.
This newsletter is released as a companion to each podcast episode, and we use it to share the visual elements of our discussion — from mood boards to design sketches, from photos to secret giveaways just for subscribers.
In episode nine, we talked to our agents, Tracey and Josh Adams of Adams Literary—we discussed how the agency came to be, what agents do day-to-day (hint: a lot more than just “sell books”) and how they went about selling our books in particular, in the US and internationally.
Before we kick off, we want to remind you that you only have a couple more days left to leave us a message with a question you’d like answered — you can do that by clicking here and using SpeakPipe to record a message, or if you’re not into voicemail, you can email us at pubdates@gmail.com or leave a comment. Everyone who asks a question via any method will go into the draw for a swag pack from both our books!
Now, on to the extras! And trust us, we’re going to know from your comments whether you read all the way to the end on this one.
You can learn more about Josh, Tracey and Adams Literary over at their website, but here’s Amie’s favourite pic of her with Tracey. This was taken back in 2013 (hence the camera’s inability to cope with a dark bar!) and that smiling author had just set to work on The Isles of the Gods, a book she was sure would be ready to show the world any day now. Little did she know it would be a decade — but that her agent would still be at her side, still cheering, all that time later.
We also talked about some of our most inspirational travels in this episode — here’s Kate in Burano, an island off Venice, feeling inspired and loving life. So many little touches from Venice would make it into Nightbirds, even though the book itself was but a twinkle in Kate’s eye when this picture was taken.
And here’s Amie’s favourite inspo picture from Iceland — this is a river that literally runs through a crack between two tectonic plates. How incredible is that? Amie set a pivotal scene of Ice Wolves in a river inspired by this one — if you’ve read that rescue scene, this is where it happened!
Do you have a place you’ve been that really inspired you? As listeners will know, we’re both travel nerds, so we would love to hear about it! Leave us a comment and tell us?
And finally, as a reward for making it all the way to the end… here’s a selfie from Kate, glowing after an excellent Zumba class. You’re welcome. (Does Amie write this newsletter? Does Kate know this picture is in here? Let’s find out.)
That’s it for this episode — so here’s one final reminder you can leave us a question by clicking here and using SpeakPipe to record a message, or if you’re not into voicemail, you can email us at pubdates@gmail.com or leave a comment. You’ll go into the draw to win our very first swag pack!
And of course, if you missed the news last episode, you can preorder Nightbirds right here!
Hi Kate, Thanks so much for such a clear reply, I really appreciate it. (I'm not surprised you had to lie on the floor a lot during the process of selling your book!)
I'm not able to travel a whole lot, but I did just get to go to the Grand Canyon last month, and it was magnificent! It was so strange because it looked fake. We could have been looking at a television screen and I doubt I'd have known the difference! But I got some great pictures from that trip and would not be surprised if something similar to that made its way into one of my books.
